Four decisions to make before you move.
There is no single right order for every homeowner. These questions help you build a plan around your property, budget and next destination.
1. Where do you want to live next?
Staying in the same town, moving elsewhere in New Hampshire, and leaving the state each call for a different search and timeline. Start with your daily routines and the location you want to keep close. Compare a smaller house, condo, rental or 55+ community by its actual layout and responsibilities.

Estimate proceeds from your current home, then compare the full cost of the next one: purchase or rent, property taxes, insurance, utilities, maintenance and association fees where applicable. A smaller home does not automatically mean a smaller monthly bill.

Explore next-home availability and financing before setting a listing date. If one closing depends on the other, discuss the dates, temporary housing and a backup plan with your agent and lender. The right sequence depends on your resources and comfort with uncertainty.

For a condo or 55+ property, review the current governing documents, fees, reserves, maintenance responsibilities and any pet or occupancy rules for that particular property. If you are moving out of NH, bring tax and estate questions to the appropriate professionals before committing to dates.
